Fenwick® HMG® Casting is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 131.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very HAPPY! Got this HMG 6ft Med rod , I own G loomis IMX and GLX and some ST Croix elite , avid and triumph rods and I recently purchased a st Croix triumph 6ft med action rod also and I have to say the fenwick HMG blows it away and it feels just as nice as my more expensive rods!! I was surprised! how good it felt and fished and the TAC handle is far much better than any of my rods! I love the grip on the HMG dry and wet it feels way better than normal handles do! Sure the handle may be a bit more heavy but who cares it works much better!! kudos to fenwick for making such a great rod for the $100.00 range it simply can't be beat!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fluke? Have been a fan since my Uncle Steve bought me my first Fenwick for my 16th birthday, 41 years ago next month. That rod is retired, but I still have in the rod holder with 7 of it's younger "brothers". Purchased an HMG 7' MH Fast Spinning last July as a bday gift to self. In the last 2 weeks, I've had 2 guides break while casting. First the tip guide broke and the guys at my shop put on another. No biggie. Next time out throwing topwaters, the 4th guide from the top broke. A fluke? I hope so. But, I've heard similar stories of guide failure. With your great warranty, you've probably have all the data you need. I hope you fix this issue because reliability is one if the main reasons I favor your products.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from High hopes, but disappointing warranty service The product had by all appearances and feel a solid construction. Within 10 casts, the bottom guide lost it's eye - I have a lot of quality rods (my first HMG however) and things happen, so I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt as construction flaws happen. However, I was disappointed that in order to get another rod, I had to find a way to ship the 6'6" one-piece rod at my own expense in order to get a replacement after inspection. Yes, I can deal with the original point of purchase, and I'll have to do that - I guess I wrongly assumed that they'd stand behind the product a little better on something that was clearly not due to use. Just something for buyers to keep in mind, I know a lot of folks have good things to say, so you may never need to return it anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Speck Trout and Red Rod I fish the 7' med-fast, 2 pc HMG paired with a 2000 series Penn Conqueror spinning reel spooled with 20 lb. braid and 17 lb. fluro leader for spec. trout and reds. For my money it is a perfect balanced combo. The rod is beautifully finished, it is light, smooth, effortless to cast and the tapered handle makes is a pleasure to use. It has more than adequate backbone to handle a decent sized fish. I fish plastics, plugs, live and cut bait; the HMG handles a variety of baits and weights nicely. I have caught 4 1/2 lb trout and 25 + lb. reds and the HMG had power to spare. A great rod for the money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lost eye insert I love the rod but I too lost an eye insert. The. Only used the rod about 5 times. Not sure why the insert fell out being the rod was well taken care of. Now the rod needs to be sent back and pending inspection will be repaired. Other then that I love the rod. The balance is good and the sensitivity is great. I can't recommend this series rod since I'm not the only person with this problem. That being said I've owned a few other Fenwicks and never had any problems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great balance and weight but... The HMG is my second Fenwick. I have an old Fenwick GLC that I have had for 25-30 years. My 7 year old loves my old set. I decided to purchase a new one for myself. The price was ok. Quality is good. We have only used it for 2 weeks. BUT.... Really poor placement for the loop to attach your hook (just above the cork!). The first time that my son used it he tried to cast the line got stuck on the holder. Fluke right or was it the 7 year old... NOPE. Approximately every 25 cast. I had it caught. I have been fishing for 30+ years. My solution was to put a piece of foam over it. YIKES! It needs to be moved up 2 inches and it would be out of the way. I still really like it but needs improvement!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality performance and price I have been using Fenwick fishing rods exclusively since the early 1970's. Over the years I have used many different rods for a variety of uses. My recently purchased Fenwick HMG casting rods are of the most excellent quality I have seen in this model to date. My experience with Fenwick with customer service cannot be beaten. For a fishing rod manufactured by those who originated the use of graphite components the HMG represents the best in balance of what today is low cost rod with the best quality possible. I highly recommend Fenwick for all styles of fishing and am extremely pleased with my most recent purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very light weight. Best rod I have ever owned. I saved up for this rod and bought it a little more then a month ago. I was beyond excited to catch all sorts of fish. thinking it would last me a long time. over the weekend I went fishing and caught a 3.10 pound bass. I had the fish hanging from the rod for a little bit trying to take out the hook. the fish made a powerful shake and snapped the end of the rod. I was very upset about the whole situation and still have no dos to fish with. but I still thought the rod was great while I had it. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to up their rod game and wanting a lightweight rod that is willing to spend the money.
