Rated 3 out of 5 by Kimbo from Exceptional Rod...poor customer service. I bought my 8-weight HMG two fish Atlantic salmon in the waters of Newfoundland and Labrador. I originally bought the rod as a backup rod for my TFO bvk. In the end I actually preferred this Rod to the more expensive TFO rod. The action of the rod was quick and casting was effortless. The only issue I had was after using the rod the top section broke and I tried to take advantage of the warranty offered. I have never had as much difficulty dealing with a company as I have with this one. Emails were not returned, phone calls or not returned, and after waiting 6 weeks for my replacement rod it was discovered that the rod may not have been sent at all

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jeepin from Best rod in this price range! Reviewing the 9 foot 8wt. I was able to buy this online for a little more than $100 dollars, so it is by far the best quality rod you can get at this low price point. Nothing else even comes close. Google "Yellowstone angler shootout" and you will see the HMG beating out rods that cost triple the price, if not more. I set this up with my LL Bean Double L arbor reel and it balances perfectly. I'm amazed by how far this can cast, and I'm far from an expert fly caster. I considered the Fenwick Aetos, which has amazing reviews as well, but for the amount I saved I have no regrets at all going with the HMG. Very, very happy with it. I would recommend this to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dean G from Great rod! Lots of bang for your buck I just got back from Atlantic salmon fishing in Gaspé, Quebec. Purchased this rod as a backup for my Orvis Access. Decided to try it on day one and used it the entire trip! Good backbone and fast action. Caught 5 salmon with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by EricZ23 from Wow Just got the 8wt Fenwick HMG fly rod the other day and I was impressed by the look of it. I took it out this morning (Tampa Bay flats) and it casts like a dream. I actually looked like I knew what I was doing! I was casting both accurately and with distance, nice tight loops. It shoots line well too. I only caught a couple lady-fish, but it was fun. I saw that the HMG was out performing $300+ rods on a 5wt shoot-out review, well worth the price. (shop around, you can find really good deals, I paid $90@Amazon)

Rated 5 out of 5 by AlphaGym1 from This is what I'm talkin' about! I have a few Fenwick fly rods (HMXF, HMG, Eagle GT & World Class). Some in the old favorite matt brown finish, some not. I recently purchased the "new look" 9' - 6wt HMG. Nice! VERY nice! I love the way it feels and handles. The new matt black finish and related appointments are nicely understated. Very cool; elegant! No garish kiddie style logo but, instead, we have the stately looking Fenwick logo of yesteryear. AND, you would be hard pressed to match the value play at this price point! Well done, Fenwick! Very well done, indeed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by eli25 from GREAT FLY ROD I just got back from salmon fishing on the Tsiu river in Alaska. The fishing was fantastic and my wife and I caught 25-30 Silvers each day. We were using the Fenwick HMG 8 weight with floating lines. The rod cast very well even in the wind and had enough power to handle the fish that ranged from 10 to 17 pounds. My only criticism is that the quality of the cork used in the handle is not the best and filler has been used to fill the gaps. I hope Fenwick will address this issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Cbooth from Best fly rod for the best price! Bought this as my first fly rod don't think I would buy another brand after this. Very light and has a great balance to it when putting a reel on it. Action is amazing and can cast a country mile!
